Last summer I interned for Fox29 San Antonio because I thought perhaps broadcast journalism was for me. My mom has always said I should be an anchor because I need to be on T.V. ...Boy was she wrong. The first time I was going to be filmed for a mock news story, I froze up and didn't say a word. Camera shy does not help when trying to become an anchor so I decided that it wasn't for me after all.
This summer I am interning for the San Antonio Current and I love it! I really feel as if I am in my element there. I love writing, even though I'm not quite writing about what I would like to yet, what I'm doing so far is doing nothing but strengthening my writing and teaching me. I am in charge of the weekly blog "10 free things happening this week", on the current's website so check me out if you get a chance! I'm so very proud of myself and my little, I'm sure very irrelevant, blog:D My goal is to really throw myself into this internship and really prove myself to the editor so that hopefully, by the grace of God, I will get offered a position or apply and am hired. I really do believe that starting my career off at The Current would be very beneficial for my future. If I don't get the job, at least i'm learning so much that I can take with me, add to my resume and create a portfolio with.
Ideally, I'd like to one day have my own column on something that I like to write about. I know I'm a long way from that but a start is a start.
